National Hispanic Heritage Month

ITJ commemorates the National Hispanic Heritage Month 2022

American culture has been profoundly influenced by the Hispanic-American community. Not just socially and economically, but the community has given so much to the nation to make it a richer and more diversified place.

Hispanic Heritage Month was created to celebrate the history, culture, and contributions of Hispanic-Americans, particularly those whose ancestors originated in Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, Central America, and South America. Every year, from September 15 to October 15, Americans mark National Hispanic Heritage Month to honor the history, culture, and accomplishments of the community’s immigrants from these countries.

A little bit of History

When Congressman George E. Brown initially proposed Hispanic Heritage Month in June 1968, it began with a week of observance. The 1960s saw a rise in the need to acknowledge the accomplishments of the Latino population as a result of the civil rights struggle. The general public’s understanding of the diverse ethnic groups residing in the US was also progressively expanding. Brown represented the San Gabriel Valley and East Los Angeles, two regions with significant Latino and Hispanic populations. He wanted people to understand how important these towns were to American history. President Lyndon B. Johnson established Hispanic Heritage Week in 1968, and President Ronald Reagan expanded it to a 30-day event beginning on September 15 and concluding on October 15. It became law on August 17, 1988, when Public Law 100-402 was approved. Furthermore, September 15 is chosen as the month’s first day because it is significant for a number of reasons. It is the anniversary of their independence for the Latin American nations of Guatemala, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, and Honduras. From this point forward, September 16 and September 18 are the respective dates for Mexico and Chile’s independence days. On October 12, Columbus Day, commonly known as Dia de la Raza, occurs.

American Hispanics represent American principles in many aspects and have made incalculable contributions to the country. The culture and economics of the United States have been irrevocably changed by the Hispanic-American community.

At ITJ, we are proud to say that our community is composed of Latino and Hispanic software engineers with outstanding talent and passion for their careers. So many young IT professionals and students from different states in Mexico and Latin America have been the core heart of the company.

Cocktail reception between ITJ and 7CTOs

7CTOs dinner for San Diego and Carlsbad

SAN DIEGO, July 7th, 2022 — 7CTOs is dedicated to bringing together technology leaders for personal and professional growth. As part of their mission, 7CTOs hosted a dinner for San Diego/Carlsbad last Thursday, and ITJ sponsored the cocktail and food reception. We all gathered to meet IT’s professionals and share experiences and everyday challenges.

At ITJ, we are delighted to have had the opportunity to meet Rachel Hart, 7CTOs Facilitator, Brittany Cotton, Head of Coaching, and many other great minds that afternoon.

“When I got here from Silicon Valley I was amazed. San Diego is one of technology’s many epicenters and has so much to offer. CTOs are the vision of the future through software developments and innovation, and here in San Diego we can change the world.” These were the welcome remarks made by Mark Field, Vice-president of Software at Insulet, and Patricia Hernández, Senior Advisor of ITJ.

7CTOs is an association of decision-makers in San Diego’s technology sector, together they share experiences and practices to promote innovation in the community. They create forums, invest in technological progress to help communities prosper, and train CTOs to be effective leaders.

We, at ITJ, are honored to have taken part in the event. Fostering relationships between decision-makers in the tech industry is vital. We can all learn from one another and provide a helping hand when needed. We value these gatherings and hope to have some more to come. Thanks again 7CTOs!.

Pride month in ITJ

ITJ commemorates Pride Month

June is a month to commemorate achievements and activism all around the world. June is Pride Month for almost fifty years and has been declared Pride Month throughout the Americas and Europe as a consequence of the efforts of LGBTQ+ pioneers. Pride celebrations have their origins in the long battle of minority groups to overcome discrimination and be accepted.

Pride Month commemorates the continuous fight for equal justice for lesbians, gays, bisexuals, transgender people, and queers, as well as the successes of LGBTQ+ people. At ITJ, we value their contribution and unite as a diverse and loving community.

We have built a diverse team with people from many origins who are appreciated for their distinct life experiences, viewpoints, and interests. We are proud of the depth of culture that this variety provides in our everyday surroundings and the perspectives and ideas that each person in our organization brings to the table. Diversity and inclusiveness are essential components of our culture.

ITJ is delighted to include members of the LGBTQ+ community on our team. We think that every person’s worth should be valued and upheld, regardless of sexual orientation. We have discovered that diversity in our teams fosters innovation, inventiveness, and problem-solving, and we are not alone.
